Masters, Ulysses G. (19 AUG 1863 – 16 JAN 1915)

Ulysses G. Masters died at his home in this city Jan. 16, 1915, of quick consumption. He was born in Oasis, Waushara Co., Aug. 19, 1863. He came to Neillsville, Clark Co. about twenty-five years ago and was clerk in the O’Neill House for some time. In 1891 he married Effie Tompkins, who died in Aug. 1907. To them was born one son, Harry, who is a school boy in the eighth grade.

During his residence here, Mr. Masters was engaged in various occupations. For a time he ran a hotel, later going into the mercantile business and for some years past carried on a gun shop and sporting goods store. For several years he was treasurer of the city. He was a man of genial disposition, loved companionship, hunting, fishing, and outdoor sports. “Stud”, as he was familiarly known, was very popular among a large group of friends, and was kindly and courteous to everyone. Besides his little son he leaves his aged parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Masters, who have been with him during his last illness, four sisters, Mrs. Whally of Wausau; Mrs. Violet Ray of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Jennie Gaston of Lordsburg, N.M. and Mrs. Dora Knight of Sioux Falls, S.D. He leaves also three brothers, Rock of Greenwood, Arthur of Chicago, and Alva of Deerfield, Wis.

The funeral was held at the home Tuesday, Rev. S.B. Pinney preaching the funeral sermon.
