Surnames: LOOS AWE KEFFEL BAST Source: GREENWOOD GLEANER (Greenwood, Wis.) 02/01/1912 Loos, George (5 MAR 1856 – 25 JAN 1912) Rev. Geo. Loos died at his home in this city (Greenwood, Clark County, Wis.) last Thursday, Jan. 25, 1912. He was taken with a stroke of paralysis Jan. 16th and remained unconscious until his death last week. The funeral took place at the home Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Otto Saewert of the German Reformed Church of the West Side, conducted the funeral service with the assistance of Rev. J. Stucki of Black River Falls and two local pastors, Rev. Bastow and Rev. Sweet. Burial took place in the Greenwood Cemetery. Those who were present at the funeral from out of the city were: Mr. and Mrs. Bast of Jackson, Wis., the latter being a sister of deceased, J.W. Loos of Kiel, a brother, Rev. Wm. Loos of Iowa, a brother, Alfred Loos of Rockford, Ill., a son, Mr. and Mrs. John Keffel of burr Oak, Iowa, the latter a daughter, Jackobina Loos of Kiel, a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Awe of the town of Beaver, the latter a sister. The deceased reached the age of 55 years, 10 months and 20 days. He was born in the town of Rhine, Sheboygan Co., Wis., March 5th, 1856. He spent his youth on his father’s farm. At the age of twenty he entered the Mission House, a theological institution of the Reformed Church near Sheboygan, to prepare himself for the ministry. He was ordained for the ministry on Oct. 3rd, 1880. He served the following charges: Potter, Wis., two years; Mormon Cooly, five years; Alma and Fountain City, Wis, three years. Then he spent a year in retirement on account of failing health. After he had sufficiently recovered his strength he served the following charges: Monroeville, Ohio, four years; Port Hope, Mich, nine years; Rising Sun, Indiana, one year; South Milwaukee, Wis., two and a half years and Lowell, Wis., three years. In July 1911 his failing health again compelled him to retire from actual service and he and his family came to Greenwood to reside, buying the Towie (the rest of my copy was cut off) |
