Beyer, August M. (1 MAR 1855 – 28 MAR 1929)

August Martin Ludwig Beyer was born in Brandenberg, Germany, March 1, 1855, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Beyer. In 1871 he came to the United States, proceeding to the home of an uncle, August Beyer, who live in Dodge County, Wis.

On Nov. 5, 1881 he was united in Marriage to Florentina Schwarze, daughter of Herman and Louise Schwarze. In 1882 they came to Clark County and purchased a farm on the West Side. Mr. Beyer was a prominent citizen of Warner Township. He served three years as member of the Town Board, eight years as Assessor and one year as Chairman of the Town Board, besides having been school clerk for 24 years. In May 1917 Mr. and Mrs. Beyer moved to Greenwood and while a resident of this city also served as Assessor for six years.

Mr. Beyer died at his home here Thursday, March 28, 1929, at 5:30 P.M., having reach the age of 74 years and 28 days.

His sad departure is deeply mourned by his devoted wife, six sons and one daughter who are Herman of Theresa, Wis., Benno of Milwaukee, Wis., Alex of Iron Ridge, Wis., Oscar of Casper, Wyo., Arnold of Greenwood, Emil of Casper, Wyo., and Lena, now Mrs. Max Seigert of Milwaukee, Wis. He also leaves five daughter-in-laws, one son-in-law, eight grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Quappe of California, one aged aunt, Mrs. August Beyer in Hopkins, Mich., and may other relatives and friends.

He was a member of the M.W.A. and E.F.U. and the Odd Fellow lodges.

Funeral services were held from the local Reformed Church Monday afternoon, Rev. E.G. Pfeiffer officiating, assisted by Rev. E. Bornholt of Neillsville. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. The following relatives from out of town were here for the funeral: Benno Beyer and family of Milwaukee, Wis.; Oscar and Emil Beyer, Caper, Wyo.; Alex Beyer, Iron Ridge, Wis.; Mrs. Max Steigert and two sons, Milwaukee, Wis.; and Mr. Herman Schwarze, Mayville, Wis.
