Surnames: JONES WHITE Source: CLARK COUNTY REPUBLICAN & PRESS (Neillsville, Wis.) 09/29/1921 Jones, John B. (19 DEC 1836 – 25 SEP 1921) John B. Jones, one of Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. first settlers, passed away on Sept. 15, 1921, at 606 South 20th St., Newark, N.J., where he resided with his wife and daughter. He was born in Lewisleo, N.Y., Dec. 19, 1836. He lacked seven days of serving four years in the Civil War, going into service with the 12th Wis. Inf. And was mustered out from the 44th Wis. Inf., having been promoted from private to 2nd Lieutenant. At the close of the war he served as United States Consular at Hamilton, Canada. He is a graduate of Bryant and Stratton Business College of Rochester, N.Y., in the year 1867. He moved to Clark County, Wis., about the year 1868, where he held various offices until 1899, when he became a resident of New Jersey. He was a member of Neillsville, Wis. Lodge No. 163 F. and A.M., and Chas. G. Bacon Post of same city, also a member of the Masonic Veterans of Newark, N.J. He is survived by his wife, Lovilla E. White, whom he married April 16, 1864 at Marion, Wayne Co., N.Y., one daughter, Vinnie I. Jones of Newark, N.J., two sons, Thomas E. Jones of Detroit, Mich., and J. Earl Jones of Columbia, N.J. and two grandchildren. |
