Redmond, Ellen (12 MAY 1865 – 16 NOV 1921)

Ellen O’Brien was born in Jefferson Co. Wis. May 12, 1865. At the age of three years she moved with her parents to the farm home in the town of Irving, where she remained until her marriage to Greenleaf Redmond of this city. Part of their life was spent on a farm near here and later retired from farm duties and came to Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., to make their future home. After a few short years Mr. Redmond was called to the beyond, leaving his life mate, who remained here for a time. Then she went back to the old farm home, where she had been reared to womanhood, as her kind and loving disposition called her to assist in the household cares in the home of her brother, Frank C. O’Brien, who is now on the old homestead and who previously was left alone by the demise of a brother a few years ago.

Mrs. Redmond had been in poor health for about three months, suffering from injuries received from falling. About two weeks ago she entered St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment and for a time seemed to be getting along nicely, but her condition changed and she passed peacefully away Wednesday morning, Nov. 16, 1921. Her niece, Mrs. Harry Whitney, of Minneapolis, and nephew, Claire O’Grady were at her bedside when death came. The remains were brought here Thursday noon, accompanied by the relatives, and were taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reinhard. Funeral services were held in St. Mary’s Church Saturday morning at 10 o’clock, Father Peter Weber officiating. She was laid to rest beside her husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Those who are left to mourn her loss are three brothers, Frank C. O’Brien and Darinell C. O’Brien of Irving, William of Miami, Fla., and two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Nagle of Milwaukee and Mrs. Mary Ann Drennen of Melrose. All were present at the funeral except William of Florida and Daniel of Irving on account of poor health.

Others who attended the funeral from out of town were Thomas Drennen and Mr. and Mrs. George Calkins of Melrose, Mr. and Mrs. F.C. O’Grady of Merrillan, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Whitney and Dennis O’Grady of Minneapolis, Will Shwentkofske and children of Superior, Frank O’Brien, Jr., Mr. Melvin, Mr. German of Irving and Mrs. Anna Merrill, Mrs. B.W. Hicks. Mrs. Catherine Bearn, Mrs. James McHugh and Mrs. J.J. Clune of Merrillan.
