Roberts Glenn (3 MAR 1925 – 6 JAN 2003)

Glenn Roberts, 77, Neillsville, died on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Jan. 10, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. Music was provided by Eileen Zank, organist, and Jodi Rueth, soloist. The Rev. Douglas Bjerke officiated. Private family committal services were held at the Neillsville City Cemetery following the memorial service. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Keller, Jacob McKevitt, Rudy Opelt, Milt Schoenfeld, Carl Seeger and Joseph Schultz.

Glenn Wolff Roberts was born on March 3, 1925, in Marshfield, to E.J. and Jessie (nee Wolff) Roberts. When he was a young child his family moved to Fargo, N.D., then later to Sioux Falls, S.D., and then to Mankato, Minn., before moving to Neillsville in 1941. He graduated from Neillsville High School in 1945. Upon the death of Art Russell in June 1945, he took over the daily operations of Russell’s Hardware Store, Neillsville. He married Metty Russell on May 22, 1949, in Neillsville. He expanded Russell’s main street store in 1951, built a second warehouse location in 1977 and later added a heating and cooling business. He had recently retired.

Survivors include his wife, Metty; three sons, Bradley (Zona) Roberts, Neillsville, William (Jeanne) Roberts, Neillsville, and Bruce (Margie) Rakestraw, Neillsville; two daughters, Mary Beth (Marcus) Schultz, Neillsville, and Becky (Brian) McKevitt, Neillsville; 10 grandchildren, Joe and Jessie Schultz, Amanda and Amy Rakestraw, Julie and Christine Roberts, Katie and Jacob McKevitt, and Adam and Hallie Steffen; one brother, John Roberts, Neillsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
