Obit: Bober, Raymond Hans (1923 – 2005)
Source: Clark County Press (Neillsville, Clark County, WI) September 28, 2005 Bober, Raymond Hans (3 Dec. 1923* - Sept. 20, 2005) Raymond Hans Bober, age 81, of Granton, died peacefully surrounded by his family, Sept. 20, 2005 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield. He loved life and learning, his writing and his family most of all; he cherished and was devoted to, his loving wife of 59 years, Virginia. With two years credits at Texas Tech, he became a decorated war veteran when he served in Okinawa, Hawaii and in the Korean War. He returned to his native Chicago with his wife where they raised their two beloved children, Virginia (Herb) Carlson, of Bonners Ferry, ID and Raymond (Leloni) vonBober of Rhinelander. Precious to him were his nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He most treasured his close loving bond with his granddaughter Wanda, and husband Noel and his dear great-grandson Nicholas Cook of Ontario, Can. A creative entrepreneur, he was the proprietor of an antique store, restaurant and pancake house in Millburn, IL. Known to many as the popcorn man, he spent some of his happiest years touring the USA with his wife and son and their antique popcorn wagon. Ray (a.k.a. Wolfgang vonBober) was also a published author of two novels, “The Carver Effect” and most recently “Destiny’s Shadow”. As a Granton Public School bus driver for 22 years, Ray proved he was eager to open his mind to a stimulating conversation with people of any age group. He loved to spin his tales for the youngsters on his route. A man of great integrity and wise counsel to many, he taught his life lessons to all that knew him: ‘What is most meaningful cannot be measured, and everything that counts-cannot be counted’. Though, he will be missed by many, his loving spirit will live on in the memories of his family and friends, and in his written words. An informal graveside burial was held Friday, Sept 23, at the Windfall Cemetery in Granton. *No birth date was given in the obituary; Birth date taken from the SSDI. |
