Burkey, Glenn C. (22 Nov. 1917 – 16 Dec. 2002)

Glenn C Burkey, age 85, of Marshfield, died Dec. 16, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Glenn was born Nov. 22, 1917 in Ross, IA, the son of Floyd and Mary (Christensen) Burkey. He received his education in the rural schools of Audubon, IA. He farmed in Iowa with his parents. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Army Combat Engineer Battalion in Europe and Africa. In 1945 he returned to Iowa.

Glenn married Velma Wiese on Jan. 14, 1946 in Omaha, NE. In Feb. 1965, they purchased a farm in the Township of York, Granton. In 1997 they retired and moved to Cedar Rail in Marshfield. Glenn was an avid reader, sports fan, and draft horse enthusiast. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, and a founding member in Iowa of the National Farmer Organization.

Surviving is his wife Velma, Marshfield; daughters Barbara Glennys (Richard) Givler, Cataract, and Linda Susan (Roger) Stoflet, Port Deposit, MD; grandsons, Shannon Glenn (Jill) Givler, Trever Lee (Maren) Stoflet, Michael Roger Stoflet, and Robert Glenn Stoflet; a sister Alice and brother Leo.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday Dec. 20, at Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, with Rev. John Trewyn officiating. Visitation will be at the Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, from 4-8 p.m. Thurs. Dec. 19, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Burial will be at Windfall Cemetery, Granton. The Haugen Richmond American Legion Post 73 Neillsville will conduct graveside military rites.

The Buchanan Funeral Home, Neillsville, is assisting Glenn’s family with arrangements.
