HEALTH CENTER VOLUNTEER HONORED FOR 32 YEARS OF SELFLESS GIVING, SHARING

Gertie Becker received a certificate of appreciation for her hundreds of hours and 32 years of volunteer at the Clark County Health Care Center in founding and continuing to participate in the Ladies Aid Organization at the Center. Becker received the certificate on July 7, the day before her 96th birthday.

The certificate comes from the “Make a Difference Day” recognition organization (created by U. S. A. weekend magazine in partnership with the Points and Light Foundation.)

Becker participated in the eighth annual Make a Difference Day on Oct. 14, 1998.

Nearly two million volunteers participated in more than 500,000 projects nationwide. Good deeds were done in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and many foreign countries. $2.5 million was distributed to the local charities of participants.

U. S. A. Weekend’s April 16-18 issue salutes all Make a Difference Day participants and recognizes those who received national and local awards. April 18-24 is National Volunteer Week, sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation. Make a Difference this year will be Oct. 23.

Becker’s certificate is signed by both Bob Goodwin, president of Points of Light Foundation, and Marcia Bullard, president, CEO and editor of U. S. A. Weekend.

Becker was surprised and very pleased to be so recognized. Community members and friends were not surprised by “Gertie’s” honor as she is well known for her generous volunteering.

Becker, 96, is in very good health, takes no medications, exercises, lives in her own apartment, continues to enjoy the company of friends, and indulges in her volunteer activities.

She is a true “Make a Difference” lady.
