Radtke, Michael (29 SEP 1828 – 20 AUG 1896)

Michael Radtke, an aged and respected citizen of the town of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., died suddenly of apoplexy, about half past five last Thursday afternoon, while talking with his son in regard to some stock. He was partially leaning on a gate and, in regard to some young stock, said, “it might as well be sold as to winter it.” As he ceased speaking fell over backward, expiring almost instantly.

The funeral occurred Saturday at the Lutheran Church, Rev. Jos. R. Fiehler officiating.

Michael Radtke was born at Schwetz, Prussia, Sept. 29th, 1828, hence lacked a little more than a month of being 68 years of age; he came to America in 1868, settling in Sheboygan County, shortly after going to Fond du Lac Co., and in 1880 came to Colby. At 26 years of age he was united in marriage with Miss Carolina Zabel, who still survives him, as does, also, three sons, August, Charles and Gustav, and one daughter, Mrs. Fred Dinz, all of whom are residents of the town of Colby.

Mr. Radtke was a man of, apparently, the very best of health, never having known a serious illness in his life. During his sixteen years in Colby, those who knew him best respected him for his sterling integrity and friendly ways. His sudden demise is sincerely regretted by all.
