Flaherty, Charles F. (15 AUG 1851 – 26 FEB 1935)

Charles Francis Flaherty was born at Sheboygan Falls, Wis., on August 15, 1851, and died at the Medford Clinic in Medford, Wis., on February 26, 1935, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 11 days.

At the age of 7 years he moved with his parents to Chilton, Calumet County, Wis., where he remained on the home farm until he was 21 years old. He then found employment elsewhere making staves, coming home occasionally as he found the opportunity.

On February 7, 1881, he was married to Rhoda Welsh, daughter of William and Elizabeth Welsh.

In the same year he moved with his wife onto an eighty acre farm which he had purchased in Loyal Township; there he built a house and barn and made his home.

He worked in the woods to some extent, the remainder of his time being given to the clearing and improvement of his farm.

He and his wife reared seven children: Eugene and Vincent of Perkinstown, Wis., John (deceased) Margaret Hastings (deceased) Agnes Stoneberg, Cottage Grove, Oregon; Kathryn Beaver, Loyal, and Agnes Duell, Greenwood.

In the year of 1911 he retired from the farm life and moved in Loyal where they remained until 1927, when they moved to Perkinstown, Wis. Here he lived enjoying the pleasures of outdoor life until the time of his death. His wife survives him. He had two sisters Mrs. Mary McGrau deceased, and Mrs. Anna Kennedy now deceased, passing away on the same day of his death. He also had five brothers Stephen, James deceased, Michael, John and Joseph.

He leaves 20 grand children and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held on Saturday, March 2, at the M. E. Church, Loyal. The Pastor Rev. A. N. Chapman officiated. Walter Nichols conducted the funeral, the interment was at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Loyal. Pall bearers were Ralph Clemetson, Dan Castner, Joe Bertz, Joe Wedl, Geo. Tucker and Lee Clouse.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. Michael Flaherty, Hilbert, Wis., Mr. Clifford Flaherty, Stevens Point; Mr. Eugene Flaherty, Perkinstown; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Armstrong and son Jolly, Perkinstown.
