Obit: Irvine, Grandma (1848 – 1935)
Surnames: IRVINE FINCH ROSCOE STOWE FRASIER The Loyal Tribune 14 March 1935 Irvine, Grandma (4 DEC 1848 – 26 FEB 1935) Mrs. W.S. Irvine, 65 years a resident of Clark County, passed away at her home in Owen, February 26, 1935, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 22 days. “Grandma” Irvine, as she was so affectionately called by everyone in the community, was born to James and Eliza (Finch) Roscoe of West Bend on December 4, 1848. She came to Clark County in 1870 and was married to W. S. Irvine on August 17, 1873. From the time of their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Irvine resided on a farm in Beaver until they sold their farm and moved to Loyal. Although they remained in Loyal but seven years, they made a host of friends. They attended the Loyal Methodist Church, of which Mrs. Irvine was a member since 1871, making her the oldest living member of the church up to the time of her death. She came to Owen with her husband in 1920 where they bought a home and have lived for the past fifteen years. Her charming personality and her sincere understanding of the younger people won her many friends, both young and old. The fact that Mr. and Mrs. Irvine were married in the town of Beaver made them the oldest married couple in Clark County. She is survived by her husband, W. S. Irvine of Owen; two sons, David of Greenwood and John of Neillsville; two sisters, Rhoda Stowe of Sanitarium, California, and Rosa Frasier of Loyal; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Two sons preceded her in death. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church here at 2:00 Friday afternoon March 1st. Interment was made in Pine Grove Cemetery. Rev. A. N. Chapman, officiating. Out of town relatives present at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. David Irvine of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. John Irvine of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Ardyth Brant of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Irvine of Marshfield, Mrs. A. B. Poff of Oconto, Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Irvine and Walter Irvine of Greenwood and Mr. and Mrs. Foster MacIlhaten of Spencer. The Tribune joins the many friends of the deceased in extending sympathy to the bereaved family. |
