The Rev. William Myron Philpott, 73, retired Methodist minister, died suddenly at 7:30 Wednesday morning at his home of his daughter, Mrs. B. J. Rohan, 311 W. Spring street, Appleton, Wis.

The Rev. Mr. Philpott, who retired in 1928 after 37 years of service, had served as pastor of Methodist churches in 17 cities and villages in Wisconsin.

He was appointed to Lucas, Dunn county, by Bishop E. G. Andrews in September, 1891. He stayed at Lucas for one year, and then became pastor at Pepin, where he remained for three years. He was head of the Arkansaw church for one year, Cadott for two, Clear Lake for three, Chetek and Cartwright for one, Colby and Unity for two, Bayfield for one, St. Croix Falls for three, Rice Lake for four, Fifty-ninth street church at Superior for two, Prairie du Sac for two, Verona for two, North Freedom for three and Spring Green for seven.

The Rev. Mr. Philpott and his father, the Rev. Harry Philpott, were ordained deacons together by Bishop I. W. Joyce at Hudson in September, 1893. He was ordained an elder by Bishop Daniel A. Goodsell at Portage in September, 1902.

Born in Ashippun, Dodge county, Sept. 11, 1861, the Rev. Mr. Philpott, son of Harry Philpott and Catherine Victoria Merrill, moved with his parents to Seymour when an infant. Later the family moved to Neosho, where they lived until 1874, and then to Loyal, Clark county. The Rev. Mr. Philpott attended the Neillsville high school, the only high school in the county at the time. He taught school near Loyal, and then prepared for the ministry at Garrett Biblical institute at Evanston, Ill. He was married to Elizabeth Minerva Pool of Mennomonie Sept. 6, 1892. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Rohan, and one son, the Rev. Merrill R. Philpott, Arkansaw, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 9 o’clock Thursday morning at the Wichmann Funeral home, with Dr. J. A. Holmes in charge. After the service the body will be taken to Mennomonie, where funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon.

Rev. Wm. Philpott was ill last summer and fall but this winter he seemed to have regained his health. Tuesday he attended a ministerial meeting in one of the downtown churches in Appleton and on Wednesday he planned to motor to Madison, but before he was dressed he had a heart attack which proved fatal.
