Raeck, Harlan (15 March 1922 – 1960)

Owen – Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Loyal Methodist Church for Harlan Raeck, 38, route 1, Owen, who was drowned in Stone Lake in western Oneida County Friday night. The Rev. Alfred Attwood will officiate and burial will be made in the Loyal Cemetery. The body is lying in state of the Myre Funeral Home at Loyal.

Harlan Raeck was born in the town of Green Grove on March 15, 1922. He received his education in the Elmwood School. His marriage to Rose Fanslaw took place on Dec. 27, 1941 in Manitowoc. They have lived on their present farm all of their married life.

Surviving are his wife, one son, Arthur, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Raeck, route 1, Unity; two sisters, Mrs. Ben (Ida) Berkachek, Hamel, Minn., and Mrs. Walter (Anna) Reuther, Manitowoc.

Funeral services for Harlan Raeck, 38, Owen, Rt. 1, were held in the Loyal Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 1960. He was drowned in Stone Lake, Oneida County at about 7 p.m. Friday when a boat over turned. He was on a fishing trip with his son Arthur.

The two of them had gone up that afternoon at the Norval Hug cottage along with Hug and his son Mike, Because the mosquitoes were so thick around the shoreline, Raeck had his son row the boat out into the lake where he was trying to attach the outboard motor when the boat capsized and both were thrown overboard.

Because he was unable to swim, Arthur clung to the boat and reported that his father came up once and started swimming and then went down. Arthur paddled the overturned craft towards shore and alerted the Hugs. Hug entered the water to search but being unable to find him, alerted the authorities. The body was recovered at 2:30 a.m. some distances from the scene of the accident. Raeck could swim & it is thought that he must have been bumped by the motor when the craft overturned.

The Rev. Alfred Attwood officiated at the funeral services and burial was in the Loyal Cemetery.

Harlan Raeck was born in the town of Green Grove, Clark County, March 15, 1922. His education was received at Elmwood School. He was married to Rose Fanslau at Manitowoc, Dec. 27, 1941. He lived all of his life on the farm where he was born.

He is survived by his wife and one son, Arthur at home; two sisters, Mrs. Ben (Ida) Berkachek, of Hemel, Minn., and Mrs. Walter (Anna) Reuther, Manitowoc; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Raeck, Unity, Rt. 1
