Obit: Barker, James (1840 – 1903)
Surnames: BARKER Source: Colby Phonograph (Colby, Clark County, Wis.) 02/05/1903 Barker, James (8 JAN 1840 – 31 JAN 1903) A telegram was received in Milwaukee, Saturday, from San Antonio, Texas, announcing the death of James Barker, general passenger and ticket agent of the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railroad Co., and formerly general passenger and ticket agent of the Wis. Central Line. The direct cause of Mr. Barker’s death was Bright’s disease, from which he had been a sufferer for some years. He was 63 years old on Jan. 8th. He is survived by his wife and four children. The funeral services were held at St. Louis, Monday, and the remains taken to Nantucket, Mass., where Mr. Barker was born, for interment. In August 1878, Mr. Barker, with other officers of the Central, was instrumental in getting Shafer Bros. to plan the Phonograph in Colby, Clark Co., Wis., and up to the time of his death evinced a friendly interest in our village. The Phonograph mourns the death of a good and true friend and extends its sincere sympathies to the family.
