Chapman, George W. (27 FEB 1834 – 25 FEB 1910)

George W. Chapman was born in Canada West, Thursday, Feb. 27th, 1834. He died at his home in Frankfort, Marathon Co., Wis., Friday, Feb. 25th, 1910. His father, George W. Chapman, was a native of Massachusetts and his parents moved to Defiance Co., Ohio, where he lived until 1893, when he came to Marathon Co., Wis. He was married to Fannie A. Hull, of Fond du Lac, Wis., Oct. 13th, 1857; to them were born 10 children 9 of whom are still living, one having died in infancy.

The following children were present at his funeral; Lester W. Corinth, Wis.; Lewis W. Frankfort, Wis.; Lyman W., Stroh, Ind.; George E., Toledo, Ia.; Newel F., Neillsville, Wis.; Mrs. Rosella Stone, Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Ella Cartwright, New Auburn, Wis.; Mrs. Olive Hopkins of Frankfort, Wis., Leon W. of Lorain, Ohio, received the message too late to be present. Besides the wife and 9 children, there are 35 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. There are also two brothers, Lymann C. of Hawk Eye, Ia; Dr. E.S. of Los Angeles, Cal., and two sisters, Mrs. Mary J. Shanklin and Mrs. Roby Biglow of Farmer, Ohio, still living. His father was a minister; his brother E.S. and three of his sons are now in the ministry.

He ever held a firm belief in the Sovereignty of God. The keynote of his teaching as a father was Truthfulness, Honor, Sobriety and Faith in God and Man.

Services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Brown of Marshfield, assisted by a choir consisting of Messrs. Winch and Hill, and the Misses Jones of Athens. Interment in Colby Cemetery.
