Surname: Niemi, Thomsen, Ekenson, Raisanen Source: Marshfield News Herald (Marshfield, Wood County, Wis.) Wed., 28 Sept. 1983; Page 15 Niemi, Kauno (30 June 1896 – 27 Sept. 1983) Withee – Kauno Niemi, 87, Withee, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, both in Withee. The Rev. Peter Thomsen will officiate. Visitation at the Maurina Funeral Home, Owen, will begin after 4 p.m. Thursday, and Friday until service time. He was born June 30, 1896 in Finland, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew (Lena Ekenson) Niemi. He came to the United States in 1912 and worked in iron re mines in Wakefield, Mich. He married Julia Raisanen in 1920 in Wakefield. They farmed in the Town of Hixton until 1968, and then moved to Withee. His wife died Oct. 3, 1971. A past member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Owen, and presently a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. Mr. Niemi is survived by two sons, Allan of Withee and Edwin of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by a son, Arnie in 1969, and one daughter in infancy.
