MILITARY FUNERAL FOR JAMES FARNING

Large Crowd Attends Services At The Catholic Church Saturday.

Neillsvile;May 6--James F. Farning was born in Neillsville on March 14, 1897, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Farning and died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Paulus on May 1, 1929. He therefore attained the age of 32 years, 1 month and 17 days.

When James was but three years of age, his father died and, when he was 12 years of age, he lost his mother. Upon being left an orphan, he was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Paulus at Neillsville in whose home he lived until he grew to manhood. He attended and was graduated from the Neillsville high school in the class of 1915. He immediately entered the Bushey's business college in Appleton where he took a business course. After his business course, he was tendered a position at the Chili bank, at Chili, where he worked for some time. From Chili he went to Greybull, Wyoming, where he received a position in the offices of an oil refining company.

The United States having entered the World's War, he resigned his work at Greybull and went to the Great Lakes Naval Training station Illinois, where he enlisted in the navy. After becoming a sailor, he was placed on a battleship and during the course of his service made three trips across the Atlantic to France with soldiers and provisions. At the close of the war, he was honorably discharged and entered the University at Valparaiso, Indiana. Upon completing his course of study at Valparaiso, he went to Chicago where he worked during the past eight years.

Attain the High Position

Several years he had been in the employ of the Sheckleton Brothers Real Estate company where he attained a position as office manager. On Dec. 15, 1927, he was married to Miss Charlotte Clevenger and the newlyweds went to housekeeping in Chicago where the groom continued to work. A baby girl, Jean Charlotte was born to this union.

His continous office employment brought on a nervous breakdown and on March 1, 1929, he was taken sick and was forced to seek temporary rest. He came to Neillsville during the latter part of March accompanied by his wife and daughter, and went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Paulus on North Hewett street where he received the best of care. Continuing to fail in health, he died on Wednesday, May 1, and the funeral services were held on Saturday morning, May 4, at the St. Mary's Catholic church with the Rev. Father Peter Weber officiating.
