Slack, Jasper (3 APR 1863 – 24 NOV 1935)

Early last summer Mr. Jasper Slack of Trafalgar, Ind., came to Loyal, at the invitation of his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. O. D. Poulton, to spend his remaining days in their home.

The months passed swiftly by, Mr. Slack fitted into the family life in a happy way, helping with the duties of the home, caring for the little great grand daughter, Alice May McPherson, who was a frequent visitor. The many friends of the family grew to love him as they went to the home and would find him in his arm chair listening to the radio or reading the bible. He always had a friendly greeting for all. On Friday evening Nov. 15th he ate supper with the family as usual. In the night he was taken with a bad heart attack, the doctor was called giving him a stimulant and telling the family he was in a very bad condition. For nine days Mrs. Poulton scarcely left his bedside. He often rallied enough to express his appreciation for her loving care and to tell friends how good they were to him but he knew he was going away and on Sunday morning Nov. 24th at 4 o’clock he slipped into the great beyond.

Jasper Slack was born April 3, 1863 and spent his whole life at Trafalgar, Indiana. Where was engaged in the mercantile and poultry business.

He died on his wife’s birthday who four years ago, was taken sick on that day. Mrs., Poulton went to Trafalgar and gave he mother the same loving care she did her father, the mother lived nine days also, after becoming stricken. It is a great comfort to Mrs. Poulton to have been privileged to care for both her parents in their last days.

Mr. Slack leaves one sister, two daughters, one son, five grandchildren and six great grand children and a host of friends to mourn.

A short service conducted by Rev. Chapman and the choir in the presence of a few friends was held at the Poulton home at 9:00 o’clock Sunday evening after which Mrs. Poulton took the remains to Indiana, Mr. Poulton going as far as Chicago.

Mrs. Poulton arrived at Trafalgar Monday evening and the funeral will be Wednesday afternoon in the Christian Church. Mr. Slack will be laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Lick Springs Cemetery. He was a member of the Methodist Church, T. & A. M. and I.O.O.F.
