Pradt, Henry (25 MAR 1846 – 23 MAR 1911)

On the morning of Thursday, March 23rd, 1911, Henry Pradt was found dead at the Wausau Country Club house by F.D. Timlin and P.V.O Van Vechten. He was lying on a cot fully dressed in a peaceful and natural position and as the subsequent inquiry developed, had lain down in a fainting spell caused by heart failure which proved fatal. On Tuesday morning he was seen by Mr. Van Vechten taking the 9:30 car for the club house and the conductor of this car noticed that he seemed ill. At half past four that afternoon Mr. Van Vechten visited the club house and then saw Mr. Pradt lying just as he was afterwards found on Thursday, and called to him, but receiving no answer concluded that he was sleeping and that he would not disturb him. He was probably, however, either unconscious or dead at the time.

The body of Mr. Pradt was removed to his brother’s house and the funeral services were held on Saturday morning at St. John’s Episcopal Church. (Wausau Pilot)

Henry W. Pradt was born in Coudersport, Pa., March 25th, 1846. The family moved to this state in 1856, settling in Sheboygan County. In 1864 Henry enlisted in a Wisconsin regiment and served in the South until the end of the war. In 1873 the family came to Colby and settled on a homestead in what is now the town of Holeton, Marathon Co., and Colby was their post office and trading point until 1885, when they moved to Wausau. Henry never married and lived with his parents until their death. He is survived by two brothers, Louis A. of Wausau, and Walter C., who sold his store in this city 3 years ago and moved to Woodsboro, Texas.
