Hoppe, Conrad (23 JUN 1837 – 11 SEP 1911)

Conrad Hoppe, an old and much respected pioneer resident of this city, died at his home in the third ward, Monday evening of cancer of the stomach, after an illness of several months during which time he has sought help from several different physicians and has just recently returned from Rochester, Minn., where he went to see those eminent specialists.

Deceased was born at Braunsburg, Germany, June 23rd, 1837 and was 74 years of age. When 15 years old he came to Milwaukee and later moved to Sheboygan, where he married Miss Henrietta Isserstedt, April 16, 1867.

In March 1879 he moved to this city and began farming one mile east. He operated the first cheese factory in this vicinity. About ten years ago he sold his farm and moved to the present home in the third ward.

Besides his wife, three daughters survive him, Mrs. K. Andrews of Colby, Mrs. K. Vesper of Alameda, Calif., Mrs. L. Schaar of Fond du Lac, and Mrs. H. Wesle, deceased.

The funeral was held this (Friday) afternoon at two o’clock from the home.
