McCutcheon, Edith E. (1 Nov. 1862 – 8 Aug. 1936)

Mrs. W. R. McCutcheon of Thorp died suddenly of a stroke of apoplexy at her home in that village, Saturday, August 8. She had been in apparent good health and was sitting at a table writing a letter to a friend and conversing with her husband, when she fell from her chair and did not regain consciousness.

Edith E. Fear was born near Augusta, November 1, 1862. She graduated from the Augusta High School and became a teacher. Coming to Thorp as a teacher of the primary department of the school. She was married October 1, 1885, to Dr. W. R. McCutchoen who as a young doctor was establishing a practice there.

The village was then surrounded by a wilderness, drawing its support largely from the lumbering camps.

Although a young lady of refinement and culture, Mrs. McCutcheon readily adjusted her life to the needs of the community. She became a valuable assistant to her husband, not only in her home, but also in his expanding professional practice and business affairs, her work in these duties continuing as long as she lived.

Quiet and gracious in manner, charming in her approach to people in every avenue of life, her influence was felt as a force in the community, without apparent effort on her part.

Her death is felt as a loss by all who knew her and especially by her husband, who has the deepest sympathy of the community.

Beside her husband, she leaves two daughters, Anna, Mrs. Wm. McEacheron of Caspian, Michigan, and Susan, Mrs. E. F. Burns of Eau Claire. She leaves also five grandchildren and one brother, E. J. Fear, who has lived in the McCutcheon home for the past two years.

Funeral services were held at the Bogumil funeral home in Thorp Monday afternoon, Rev. Noramberg of Eau Claire officiating. It was a simple and beautiful service.

Besides the daughters and their respective families there were many in attendance from the vicinity and neighboring towns and cities.

Those who attended from Neillsville were Senator and Mrs. W. J. R??H. Mrs. L. H. Howard, Miss Bernice MacMillan and Geo. F. Cr???.
