10 Years Ago, April 23, 1992 Nich Brenner and Shannon Schoch were named king and queen of the Junior Prom on April 11.
Thieves broke a window in the door at the southeast end of Hank's Pharmacy on April 18, gaining entry and making off with several bottles of liquor. Apparently after the first burglary, another incident took place when someone found the broken door and also entered the store and took some liquor. Police apprehended three juveniles at the second burglary, and more arrests are anticipated.
25 Years Ago, April 21, 1977 Ground was broken for the new Holy Family church on Sunday. The church will be built on the site of the old Lincoln School, between Second and Third Avenues.
40 Years Ago, April 26, 1962 John Mathwig was presented the Outstanding Senior Athlete Award by Coach Ade Washburn at the first annual athletic banquet.
50 Years Ago, February 15, 1986 [sic] Walter H. Brovald has resigned as the editor of the Republican, a position he has held since July 1949, and has accepted a position with the Eau Claire radio station WEAU.
60 Years Ago, April 24, 1942 Carl Theirl, 14, won the Stanley City Marbles championship and will be captain of a group of five Stanley boys who will meet the best of the rest of the county at the Lincoln school grounds for the county championship.
70 Years Ago, April 22, 1932 Archie VanZutphen and Carl Brandsness were sreiously injured in an automobile crash early Sunday morning when their acr overturned near Owen. Both were taken to the hospital near Owen, when VanZutphen was found to have a fractured collar bone and a concussion of the brain. Brandsness received some fractured ribs and other cuts and bruises. Both are now back in their homes in Stanley.
100 Years Ago, April 26, 1902 The Stanley High School will turn out a graduating class of seven this year.
Thorp: No new cases of smallpox have developed and nearly all quarantines have been removed.
