Long-Powszukiewicz, Rose (August 17, 1918 - February 23, 2006)

Rose Powszukiewicz-Long, age 87, of 116 Barber St. Stanley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at her home with her family by her side and under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice, Chippewa Falls. A Christian Burial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Robert Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadowbrook Cemetery, Gilman. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. at the church, prior to service time. Plombon Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Rose was born August 17, 1918 in Thorp, the daughter of Felix and Josephine (Budzynski) Lato who emigrated here from Poland. She grew up in the rural Thorp area and was then united in marriage to Walter H Powszukiewicz at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in 1936. They then bought a farm in the Gilman area and resided there. Walter passed away in 1957 and Rose continued to farm with her children and then married William Long in 1960 and they continued farming until 1971 when they moved to Stanley. Rose then trained for and became a very caring CNA for the Victory Medical Center in Stanley where she worked for 14 years until retiring. Rose’s goal in life was to be a peacemaker. She loved to farm, garden, care for others and to cook. Apple slices became her renowned specialty.

She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her children: Walter (Dorothy) Powers of Menomonee Falls: Edward (Tootsie) Powszukiewicz of Sagauche, CO; Richard Powszukiewicz of New Berlin; and Betty (Thomas) Woodman of Colfax; grandchildren: David (Joanne) Powers; Steven (Tammy) Powers; Mary Powers; Mark (Kristen) Powers; Michael Powszukiewicz; Mitzi (Scott) Hunter; Angela (Richard) Powszukiewicz-Abplanalp; Kenneth Powszukiewicz; Joshua (Karen) Woodman; Jason Woodman; Adam (Carol May) Woodman and Andrea (Mark) Reede; great-grandchildren; Nicole, Kaitlin, Kyle, Brian, Cory, Jordan, Cassidy Rose, Ben, Ashley, Megan, Brenna, Amanda, Alaina, Aric, Ethan, Ayden, Samantha and Lilly Rose; two sisters; Anna Zajack of Thorp, and Nellie Purkapile of Marshfield; one brother Joe (Agnes) Lato of Thorp; three sister-in-laws; Elaine Lato of Stanley; Rose Wilczek of Thorp and Francine Powers of Los Angeles, CA; one brother-in-law, Joe Pow of Thorp; step-brother-in-law Ted (Frieda) Stengel of Cedarburg; seven step-sister-in-laws: Marjorie Willingham and Mary Topping both of Meridian, ID; June (Henry) Schleier of Mequon; Rosemary (James) Johnson of Cedar Lake, IN; Elizabeth Daniels of Grafton; Catherine Strand of Bruce Crossing, MI, and Lori Stengel of Billings, MT and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; brothers, Paul, Stanley and Vincent Lato; sisters: Stella Lato and Mary Grabowksi.
