(February 16, 1949 - May 21, 2006) Kenneth W Sheffer, age 57, of Humbird died at a residential care facility in Eau Claire Sunday, May 21, 2006, following a long illness. Kenneth was born February 16, 1949, in La Crosse to parents Walter D and Delores (Thompson) Sheffer. He graduated from high school in Alma Center and served in the U. S. Navy. He married Marcia Vinney August 10, 1968, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairview. He was employed at Nelson Muffler in Black River Falls for 17 years and he also worked for Inland Steel. He was a member of the Humbird American Legion Post 320. Kenneth enjoyed spending time watching old westerns on television, particularly Gunsmoke and John Wayne movies. Other special pastimes included motorcycles, hunting, fishing and NASCAR racing. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Marcia of Humbird; two sons, Todd (Lisa) Sheffer and Michael (Leah O’Neill) Sheffer of Alma Center; one daughter, Shelley (Mike Spurling) Sheffer of Fredricksburg, IN; his parents, Walter and Delores Sheffer of Humbird; one brother, Richard Sheffer of Humbird; and seven grandchildren, Kyle and Alysia Gerber, Zachary and Page Sheffer and Christian, Keisha and Austin Sheffer. He was preceded in death by one son, Travis, in 1990. Funeral services for Kenneth W Sheffer will be held at 1 p.m. Friday May 26, 2006, at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, with Terry Marg officiating. Burial with Military Rites by the Humbird American Legion Post 162 will take place in Mentor Cemetery, rural Humbird. Friends may call at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to services. Casket bearers will be Todd and Mike Sheffer, Steve and Rex Sanders, Eric Brandt and Mike Spurling. The family of Kenneth Sheffer would like to express its sincere appreciation for the loving care given to Kenneth by the staff at the residential care facility where he lived for the past three years.
