Surnames: BUDGE GARDNER BRADFIELD PETTIT NORTON MORTIMER LAWRENCE ROWE BOLTON GIBSON WILCOX ROOT WATERBURY Source: Republican and Press (Neillsville, Wis.) 08/20/1891 WILCOX There was a surprise party given Billy Budge by his neighbors on the 11th, and a very enjoyable time is reported. On the 14th one of the hands at Hein’s mill got one of his hands badly cut on a saw and had to go to Neillsville to have it dressed. Mrs. Wolf Gardner was quite badly hurt Sunday morning the 16th, while helping her husband catch a colt. The colt kicked her in the side. Dr. Bradfield was called and it was thought for a while that she would not live, but she is reported on the gain. Mr. Pettit, of Dorchester, and his niece, Mrs. Chet Norton, came down last Friday and stayed over Sunday with Mrs. Norton’s sister, Mrs. Wm. Mortimer, returning Monday. The York Center store has been quite a lively place for the past few days. They have been taking an inventory of the goods as A.E. Lawrence will retire from the business, E.M. Rowe remaining at the Center. Bolton and Gibson made a sale of 124 boxes of cheese this week, to be delivered on the cars at Loyal. They sold to Oshkosh parties. The cheese they make is pronounced No. 1 in the markets. Wilcox and Root intend to start their threshing machine the last of this week or the first of next, Mr. Waterbury, of Loyal, as engineer.
