Obit: Riedel, Albert (1890 – 1938)
Surname: Riedel, Rath, Longenecker, Wilaon, Johnaon, Trimberger, Lautenbach, Mable Source: Neillsville Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 24 Feb. 1938 Riedel, Albert (3 Dec. 1890 – 18 Feb. 1938) Albert Riedel, 47, a World War Veteran, was found dead at his home about a mile east of Granton on Highway 10, Friday noon by his brother, Theodore. A gun was found beside the body, and it was decided no inquest would be held. Dr. R. R. Rath of Granton, when called, stated the man had been dead probably about ten hours. Mr. Riedel was well known in this section of as a musician and singer, being particularly skilled as a cornet player, and had often played in Neillsville, Granton and Marshfield. He had a fine baritone voice and often sang at funerals. He was rated one of the most skilled cornet players in the army, while serving in the 341st infantry, 86th division, at Camp Grant, Ill., and in France. Mr. Riedel had been despondent lately because of sinus trouble and rheumatism. He was born in the home where he died, Dec. 3, 1890. The funeral was held Sunday, with services at the home at 1 p.m., Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating, and interment took place in Windfall Cemetery at Granton. A quartet consisting of Milo Mable, Geo. Wilson, Geo. Johnson, and V. E. Trimberger, sang at the services. War Veterans and a firing squad also attended. Surviving are the aged father, August Riedel, a sister, Mrs. Otto (Rosa) Lautenbach, and two brothers, Arthur of the town of Grant and Theodore of the town of Lynn. Another brother preceded him in death some years ago. |
