--------- Salter, Sara (25 DEC 1856 – 8 JUN 1922)

Mrs. R.B. Salter, nee Sara Engelhard, passed away in death in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield, Wis., on Thursday, June 8, death coming to her after a lingering illness. Mrs. Salter was born at Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 25, 1856, and came to West Bend with her parents when she was a child. She received her education in this city and for a number of years taught school with marked success in West Bend and in other parts of the county. She married R.B. Salter in 1881 and moved to Colby, Wis. the same year, residing there up to the time of her death. Mr. Salter died eight years ago. Mrs. Salter was the mother of five children, one of whom died in infancy – Thomas; surviving her are Hortense (Mrs. Chas. Freeman) of Menomonie, Wis., Richard of Colby, and Harold and John of Pittsville, Wis. She also is survived by five sisters: Mrs. L.E. Adams of Chicago, Mrs. John F. Sims of Stevens Point, Miss Fermine Engelhard of Colby, and Mrs. M.G. Blackmun and Mrs. C.P. Mooers of this city. Funeral services for the deceased were held in the M.E. Church at Colby last Saturday, after which the body was brought by rail to West Bend, arriving here Sunday afternoon. Interment was made in Union Cemetery. The following were in the city to attend the funeral: Mrs. L.E. Adams, Mrs. G.P. Engelhard, Mrs. St. Clair Drake and Mrs. Willis of Chicago; John F. Sims of Stevens Point; John Salter of Unity; Chas. Freeman of Menomonie, and Miss Fermine Engelhard of Colby.

Mrs. Salter was a woman of sterling worth and character, a loving wife and a considerate mother, whose every heartthrob was for the welfare of those near and dear to her. She had many warm personal friends both in West Bend and at Colby and all regret here death exceedingly. To her bereaved children and sisters we extend our heartfelt sympathy.
