(April 9, 1929 - May 20, 2005) Marvin L. Burkhalter, age 76, of Sparta, passed away May 20, 2005 at his home in the Township of Angelo. Marvin was born April 9, 1929, to Emil and Frieda (Kortbein) Burkhalter in the Township of Greenfield, Monroe County, Wisconsin. Marvin farmed until the age of 23 and then decided to work in the construction business for seven years helping build the Illinois Toll Road in 1957 and 1958. He then worked for American Motors in Kenosha for 10+ years. Following his employment with American motors he worked for Nelson Filter Company as a Punch Press Operator and Machinist in Neillsville, before retiring in 1990. He is survived by his special friend, Donna Niebuhr; three daughters, Mavis Burkhalter, of Neillsville; Sarah Vollmer of Neillsville; and Jacqueline (Marvin) Schoenherr, of Granton; three sons, Harry Burkhalter, of Neillsville; Leslie Burkhalter, of Spencer; and Gene (Kathleen) Burkhalter, of West Salem; one brother, Kenneth (Judy) Burkhalter of West Bend; six grandchildren; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Frieda; and one son, Michael, of Marshfield; one sister, Jeannette of Arizona. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, May 26, at12 noon at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited for fellowship at the home of Marvin, 13485 Cty. Hwy I, Township of Angelo, WI, following the burial at the cemetery.
