----O’Rourke, Doris Josephine (April 5, 1923 - May 22, 2005)

Doris Josephine O’Rourke, age 82, of Neillsville passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2005. She moved to Neillsville ten years ago to live near her daughter and grandchildren.

Doris was born April 5, 1923 in Racine, the daughter of Michael and Elsie (Johnson) Castor. She grew up in Brampton, MI, and then traveled to various locations in her work with Western Union. She met Wilbur F. O’Rourke while working in Waupun and they later married and eventually settled in La Crosse where she lived for most of her life.

Doris was an intelligent, generous, caring individual who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was open to new idea and was a lifelong learner. She worked at a variety of establishments including Western Union, Eversole Motors, and J C Penney then eventually retired from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. Following her retirement she took University Courses for which she received excellent grades. Doris was active in the Disabled American Veteran’s Auxiliary and the Moose Club while living in La Crosse. Doris loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and shard her love of reading with them. She enjoyed music and television programs and her library containing hundreds of books on a variety of topics. Doris made the world a better place through her generosity and her example. She was open-minded as well as open hearted and will be greatly missed by all those she touched in this life.

She is survived by three daughters, Becky (Allen) Wilson, of Fond du Lac; Katie Toledo, of Farmington, NM; and Peggy Buchda, of Neillsville. She is further survived by a sister, Elsie “Tillie” Deese, of La Crosse; a brother, Alaric (Millie) Castor, of Branpton; her grandchildren, Mark (Dana) Wilson, Mike (Patti) Wilson, Matt (special friend Beth) Wilson, Tiffanee O’Rourke, Kelsey Toledo, Shannon Buchda, Jason Buchda; great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She will be greatly missed.

There will be a memorial gathering on Saturday, May 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at he Buchanan Funeral Home in Neillsville.
