Herbert E. Arndt, age 84, of Neillsville passed away Wed. March 2, 2005, at the Memorial Home in Neillsville.

Herbert was born October 7, 1920 in the Town of Scott, Sheboygan County the son of Elmer and Hulda (Thies) Arndt. He was united in marriage to Arlene Boumann on January 3, 1942. She died in 1986. He later married Adeline Bieneck on April 22, 1995 at St. Johns Lutheran in Plymouth. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1939 and then worked as a welder at Allis Chalmers. In 1943, he entered the U. S. Navy serving in WWII in the Pacific Theater and was a Tokyo Bay at the signing of the peace treaty. He farmed for five years and was a printer for 36 years from 1950-1986. Herbert was a member St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Neillsville. He was a past Commander of the Plymouth VFW, member of the Bird Club in Plymouth, and a member of the National Audubon Society.

He is survived by his wife, Adeline Arndt, of Neillsville; children, Allen (Joanne) Arndt, of Plymouth; Doris (James) Frazar, of Pipe Creek, TX; and six stepchildren, Lila Johnsrud; Iris Bemis; Roy, David and Duane Bieneck and Darlen Leitch; three grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchildren; and one sister Alice (Ed) Bemis, of Oconomowoc.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene; one son, Randy Scott Arndt; one daughter, Kerlin Carol Dugelmann; two sisters, hazel Bolitho, and Harriet Klug.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 5, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plymouth. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, in Plymouth. The Plymouth VFW conducted military rites.

Pallbearers were: Gary and James Bemis, David and John Klug, Jon and Christ Arndt.

Buchanen Funeral Home of Neillsville handled the arrangements.
