Leland Reich

GRANTON -- Leland Reich, age 88, of Granton died suddenly Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, in his home on Romadka Road.

The memorial service for Leland will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Zion Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, in Granton, with the Rev. John Trewyn officiating. Music will be provided by Caroline Helm and the congregation.

Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Honorary Casket Bearers are Roger Garbisch, Ben Garbisch, Eric Garbisch, Joel Garbisch, James Garbisch, Robert Garbisch and Tommy Garbisch.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Leland's family with funeral arrangements.

Leland Ewald Reich was born on Oct. 25, 1917, in the town of York, son of Gustav and Anna (Kupke) Reich. He attended the Romadka School through the eighth grade. He was confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Granton, and remained a member all of his life. On April 16, 1941, Leland was united in marriage to Elenora Garbisch, daughter of Bernard and Bertha (Helm) Garbisch, in the Zion parsonage.

They farmed on the Reich family farm, moving just one quarter mile north when the farm was taken over by his son, Leonard and then-wife Linda (Krause), in 1983. Leland took welding classes in Marshfield and for many years did repairs in his shop, Reich's Repairs, on the farm. He and Leonard "Lenny" became known for the maple syrup they produced for many years. Recently, after his triple bypass surgery in 2000, Leland "Lee" tended a big garden, cared for an apple orchard and grape arbor, and did a large amount of canning and freezing.

He is survived by a brother, William "Bill," age 95, in Kearney, Neb.; and two sisters, Anna (Claude) Aumann, age 97, of the Memorial Home in Neillsville and Martha (James) Durst, age 93, Neillsville; his two children, Arlene (Rocca) Reich of Sunbury, Ohio, and Leonard of Granton; five grandchildren, Lisa (Rocca) Guindon and husband Michael of Michigan, Jennifer Rocca of New Mexico, Melissa (Reich) Dahlo and husband Rickard of Minnesota, and Theresa and Andrea Reich of Spencer; also two great-grandchildren, Logan Poppenger, Mich., and Emily Dahlo, and 2 stepgreat-grandchildren, Courtney and Taylar Guindon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leland was preceded in death by his wife, Elenora; three brothers, Edward, Paul, and Walter and his wife Lilly; also two sisters, Emma (Fred) Scholtz, and Clara (Henry) Grottke and their husbands.
