Casper Sobczak was born in Poland in 1857, on Feb. 27th. As a boy and young man he worked as a shepherd. In the year 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Frances Polus, and in May 1887, he came to America, and was followed by the family the next spring. They remained for six months in New York and New Jersey, when the came west and located in Winona, Minn. After a short stay there they went to Dresbach, Minn. In 1896 they located in Fairchild (Eau Claire Co., Wis.), which village has since been their home.

On May 1, 1896, he commenced for the Omaha Railroad Company, continuing till the day of his death. Mr. Sobczak passed away suddenly on Monday morning, Dec. 28, at 7:30, heart failure being the cause of his death. The mother died on Jan. 20, 1919, and two sons preceded the father in death, Ed four years ago, and Frank nine years ago.

Deceased was one of a family of nine children, himself and one brother being the only members coming to this country, the brother locating at Toledo, Ohio.

He is survived by four sons and two daughters, I.C. Sobczak, of this village (Humbird, Clark Co., Wis.), Lawrence of Fairchild, John of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Bessie Gorham of Stillwater, Minn., Mrs. Helen Jolly of West Allis, and Stephen of Fairchild. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren.

The funeral services were held at his late home in Fairchild on Thursday, Dec. 20th, conducted by the Modern Woodmen camp of Fairchild, of which he had been a member for many years. Rev. Bliss officiated. Burial was in the Fairchild Cemetery.

Thus has passed from his earthly labors a much respected citizen, a good neighbor, and a kind husband and father.
