Monday morning, soon after 7:00 o’clock, Mrs. Mary Horel expired suddenly at the E. Washburn home. Mrs. Horel, who was an old resident of this vicinity, had arrived a few days previous from Tomah for a visit with her niece, Mrs. Washburn, and other relatives in this vicinity. She suffered from a severe cold while with a granddaughter at Tomah, but was otherwise in good health. A number of relatives had gathered at the Washburn home Sunday evening, including John Hurst of Augusta, and Mrs. L. Horn of Weyerhauser. Mrs. Horel enjoyed the visit and retired in good spirits. The next morning she was assisting Mrs. Washburn with the breakfast work, when the end came without warning.

The sudden death of Mrs. Horel is a shock to all relatives in this vicinity, especially those at whose home the summons came, and sympathies are extended to them all.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church at 9:00 o’clock this Friday morning, and the funeral party will leave by auto for the LaGrange Cemetery, near Tomah, where burial will be made. Rev. Litchfield will officiate.

Mary Orr was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in the month of March 1847. One year later she, with her parents, emigrated to America, settling near Buffalo, N.Y. The family moved to Wisconsin when Mary was eight years of age, settling near Fond du Lac. Six years later they came to Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.) and located on the farm now owned by John Theis.

In June 1864, Mary Orr was united with Elisha Horel. To this union seven children were born, three of whom died in infancy. The oldest of the children, Alfred, died in Tomah in 1893. Those surviving are three sons: A.L. Horel of Coln, Iowa; H.H. Horel of Worland, Wyo.; and Dr. C.S. Horel of Jackson, Wyo., all of whom came to attend the burial.

The family moved to Tomah in 1883, where the father died in February 1895. In 1896, the mother, with her sons, moved to College Springs, Iowa, where they resided until 1906, when she moved to Worland, Wyoming, her last home.

Besides the three sons, Mrs. Horel is survived also by one brother, William Orr of Clarinda, Iowa.

The death of this mother and friend marks the passing of a sweet and pure woman, one who feared and trusted God, one who had an undying trust in mankind, exemplifying this trust in her daily deeds, and living, and her devotion to the creed of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

Besides her near relatives, she is mourned by a host of friends, all who knew her wherever she went.
