Betty Jane Piland, age 70, of Springfield, passed away Sunday night, April 25, 2004, at home. Betty Jane was born to Adam and Sarah (Biddle) Path on January 22, 1934, in Thorp, Wis. She was the granddaughter of George and Mary (Bancroft) Biddle of Thorp. At age 7, her family moved to St. Claire, Mich., where her father worked in the defense industry. As a teenager, she accepted Christ as her savior. After attending Harding College in Arkansas, Betty moved to Missouri and became an LPN. On June 1, 1957, she married Ed Piland, whom she met at Brush Creek Church of Christ in Kansas City. Ed and Betty lived much of their life in southwest Missouri, as well as over four years in Homburg, West Germany. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Her dedication to God and delight in serving Him were reflected in the way she lived her life. She always cared for those around her and put others before herself. She enjoyed reading, classical music and sewing.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Ed; children, James of Buffalo, Carol (Piland) Morehead and husband Dan of Austin, Texas, and David of Springfield; three sisters, Mae (Path) Morrison of Belleville, Mich., Kathy (Path) Daugherty and husband Joe of New Bern, N.C., and Amber (Path) Johnson and husband John H. of Fayetteville, Ark.; one brother, Bill Path and wife Freddie of Fort Smith, Ark.; and four grandsons, Matthew, Justin, Connor and Liam.
