Ernest Boehning, 29, Granton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Boehning passed away at the Neillsville Hospital at 2:40 P.M. Monday.

Four other persons were injured in the accident who were taken to the Marshfield Hospital.

The accident occurred at about 1:30 A. M. Monday when the car owned by Harvey Wickersham, and being driven by Boehning left highway 10 seven miles west of Neillsville. The car broke off a telephone pole, then spun for 390 feet, rolling over and over until it came to a stop after crossing the side road. Boehning was thrown 50 feet beyond the spot where the machine stopped rolling. Other members of the party were hurled from the wreckage at various points along its trail.

Boehning suffered a skull fracture, internal injuries, and a number of broken bones. His sister, Miss Dorothy, 21, of Granton, R. 2, is at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, with a back injury and fractures of the left knee and right ankle.

Harvey Wickersham, 22, Marshfield, R. 1, also has a severe back injury, in addition to numerous contusions and lacerations. Seriousness of the back injuries could not be determined by attending physicians until later.

Miss Dorothy Panzer, 19, Hewitt, has lacerations about the eyes, forehead, and legs, and possible internal injuries. Emery Berry, 24, Marshfield, R. 5, has a fractured knee cap. All of the occupants of the car received multiple contusions and abrasions. The latter four all receiving treatment at the Marshfield hospital.

After investigating the accident, Clark county officers said the car apparently was traveling at high speed when it left the road. They said at the point where thr car crossed the graveled highway H, only two indentations were visible, indicating that the machine virtually hurled the road.

The car was a 1937 model and was reduced almost to complete wreckage. Officers reported that the auto turned over “possibly a dozen times” after striking the telephone pole.

The deceased and Miss Dorothy Boehning are brother and sister to Mrs. Ray Vogel and Mrs. Joseph (Buster) Newman of this village.
