Daft NEILLSVILLE -- Fred G. Daft, 93, died on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, in Neillsville. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, with a memorial service to follow, at the Gesche Funeral Home, 4 South Grand Street, Neillsville. He was born on Jan. 17, 1913, in Lena, to Gottfried and Pauline Daft. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1936 and was located in Independence. While there he met and married Betty Barlow in June 1938. From 1944 to 1949 Fred was with Mobil Oil in Neillsville and Prairie du Chien. In 1953 he moved to River Falls and was an independent petroleum distributor. Upon retiring in 1965 he moved to Rock Dam. He developed and ran a private campground. The campground was later purchased by Clark County and is known as Rock Dam Campground in Willard. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent many hours riding snowmobiles in the Rock Dam area. He is survived by two daughters, Judy Skroch of Raleigh, N.C., and Karen Loibl of Bloomington, Minn. Survivors also include granddaughters, Denise Hatzidakis of Apex, N.C., Pamela Dorner of New Brighton, Minn., Joan Stuart of Raleigh, N.C., and Patrice Rasmussen of Spokane Valley, Wash.; great-grandchildren Ashton and Adam Stuart, Bobby Dorner, Madison and Payton Rasmussen and Zoe Hatzidakis; sisters, Helen Daft of Racine, Martha Primuth of Sturtevant, and brother, Henry Daft and sister-in-law, June Daft of Racine. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Betty; and sons, Robert (Bobby), James and Frederick. |
