A memorial service for Gordon was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2006, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, North Green Grove. Reverend Dr. Paul. C. Hunsicker presided. Burial was with full military rites by the Colby VFW #2227 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends was held on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Maurina-Community Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. Gordon was born September 12, 1914, in Truman, MN, the son of William and Lydia (Mildrandt) Armbrust. Gordon serviced his country in the US Army as a medic during WWII in Iraq, Iran and India. Gordon and Ruth (Backlund) were united in marriage on September 14, 1965. They farmed in Minnesota and in 1967 moved to Colby to continue farming. He helped with the hot lunch program at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Colby. Gordon was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a life-time member of the Colby VFW Post #2227. Gordon will be dearly missed by his children, Les and Donna Armbrust of Baraboo, Lonnie and Cora Armbrust of Colby, Lori Armbrust of Whitehall; Cheryl and Stu Iverson of Albuquerque, NM; Barb and Jeff Rackow of Anoka, MN; John and Wendy Armbrust of Woodbury, MN; nine grandchildren, Megan Iverson, Chris (Melina) Armbrust, Lito Armbrust, Anthony Armbrust, Erin Armbrust, Shawn Armbrust, Rachel Armbrust, Jeff Rackow and Nicholas Rackow; one sister, Fern Bulfer, of Fairmont, MN; five brothers, Albert (Muriel) Armbrust of Truman, MN, Ray Armbrust of Truman, MN, Billy (Audrey) Armbrust of Shakopee, MN, Harvey (Grace) Armbrust of Trimont, MN, and Robert (Hazel) Armbrust of Fairmont, MN. Gordon is receded in death by his parents; step mother, Josephine Armburst; three brothers, Don, Fritz and Lawrence; and three sisters, Ruby, Wilma and Fay. (Paid Obituary, 44-653977) |
