Garber, Mrs. John (4 August 1855 - 15 April 1925)

Emma Garber, nee Burckhardt, was born August 4, 1855, in the town of Merrimack, Sauk county, Wis., oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Traugott Burckhardt, and died at her home in the town of Cleveland, of heart failure, on Wednesday evening, April 15, 1925, at the age of 69 years, 8 months and 11 days.

She was married to Mr. John Garber Dec. 7, 1873, at Sauk City, Wis. They made their home in Merrimack for fifteen years, moving then to their present home in the town of Cleveland, where they have since resided.

On Dec. 7, 1923 Mr. and Mrs. Garber, surrounded by their family, most happily celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Garber had been enjoying good health right alon, having a slight cough for a couple of weeks before she died. She had eaten a hearty supper and was assisting in the household duties following, and was in the act of putting wood in teh range when she dropped into a chair and expired. Her death was a great shcok to her family and friends.

She is survived by her aged husband and seven children, Mrs. Hulda Wincher, Mrs. Louisa Bryner, and Mrs. Alex. Lubinski, all of this vicinity. Louis, Alvin and William at home, and Emil, of Altoona. Three children preceded her to the Great Beyond: Mrs. Paulina Zimmerman, Mrs. Matilda Watters, and Walna.

Deceased is also survived by ten grandchildren; three sisters: Mrs. Herman Gettwinkle, Mrs. Alex. Eschenbach, and Mrs. Frank Schlag, all of Sauk county; and three brothers, Herman and William, living in Sauk county, and Charles, of Texas.

The funeral services werre held last Saturday afternoon at her late home on the farm and at the Reformed church in this village, Rev. D. Grether officiating. Burial was in the Alma Center cemetery. Although the day was very stormy, a large number of friends attended the burial, to pay their last tribute of respect to the memory of this esteemed woman, and extend sympathies and consolations to those who sorrow.

Burckhardt, Merrimac; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Burckhardt and daughter, Baraboo; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Mayo, Camp Douglas; and Fred Schumann, Eau Claire.
