(21 Sep 1970 – 18 Nov 2006) David L. MacArthur David L. MacArthur, 36, Spencer, died of natural causes while hunting Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 in the Town of Maplehurst, near Lublin. The funeral services will he held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov 24, 2006 in the Colby High School gymnasium. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hewitt. Visitation is also 9 a.m. Friday until time of the service. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Hewitt, with the Rev. Dean Pingel presiding. Pallbearers are Colby High School varsity boy’s basketball players. Sally Becker will provide music with Vicki Monnier as soloist. Hansen Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Dave was born Sep. 21, 1970, to James Dougal and Louis (Haag) MacArthur in Ladysmith. He was a 1989 graduate of Ladysmith High School. After graduating, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County. Later he transferred to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he received his degree in Physical Education in 1994. He played varsity basketball at both colleges and was named the Wisconsin Junior College Conference Player of the Year in 1991. Dave was an assistant student coach at UW-La Crosse for two years and head coach for the varsity boy’s basketball team at UW-Marshfield for one year. On Aug 31, 1996, he married Carla Fredrick at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hewitt. Dave began teaching physical education for the Colby School District and became the varsity boy’s basketball coach in 1997. He was currently the Activities Director for the Colby School District. In May 2006, he received his Master’s Degree in General Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He was an avid sports fan and outdoors man. Dave was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association, and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hewitt. His 1999 AAU Boys Basketball team played in the national tournament in Orlando, FL. In 2006, Dave was named the WBCA All-Star Assistant Coach. He was proud of this Colby Hornets Basketball teams that were back to back Eastern Cloverbelt Conference champions the last two years. He had high hopes for the team’s coming season. Dave is survived by his parents; his wife, Carla and a two year old daughter, Cierra. He is further survived by one brother, Allen (Rosemary) Warwick of Ladysmith; five sisters, Kathy (Dale) Flint of Phoenix, Bonnie (John) Halberg of New Auburn, Eva (Brad) Bobeck of Cohasset, MN; Sondra Karl of Barron and Laurie Warwick of Altoona; father and mother-in-law, Bob and Carol Fredrick; sister in law, Connie (Tim) Rhodes; and brother in law, Bruce, all of Marshfield. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, one sister, Cindy and one brother James. Dave was a role model for many athletes and students throughout his years as a teacher and coach. He will be sadly missed by many. A scholarship in Dave’s name will be established at a later date.
