(12 JUL 1913 – 26 OCT 2006) Merril Charles “Bunny” Hare, 93, Greenwood, died on Thursday, Oct., 26, 2006, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. A celebration of his life will be held at the Greenwood American Legion at 11 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 4. There will be a luncheon served at noon at the Legion Hall. Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Greenwood. Merril Charles Hare was born on July 12, 1913, in Cooperstown, N.D., the son of Charlie Tupper and Olive (nee Sischo) Hare. The family moved to Greenwood shortly after his birth and he lived the rest of his 93 years in Greenwood. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1931. On Aug. 26, 1934, in Greenwood, he and Lois Merkel were united in marriage and they celebrated their 72nd anniversary this year. As a young couple, they resided in Greenwood and he worked for Keiner’s Meat Market and eventually owned and operated the People’s Market on Main Street in Greenwood. His second career was as a custodian and bus driver for the Greenwood School District, retiring in 1978. Hunting and fishing were his passion. He served from 1940-1972 on the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department. Including serving as chief. He will be remembered for his engaging smile, a big handshake, and a quick wit. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Lois, Owen; his children, Corrine (Dick) Larson, Greenwood, Sue Ellen (Jim) Rahm, Greenwood, Margaret (Joe Pagliolo) Hare, Columbia Heights, Minn., Rosemary (Jim Uhren) Hare, Milwaukee, William (Frances Li) Hare, Minneapolis, Minn., and Beth Hare, Oshkosh; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Alma Elmhorst, Illinois; and one sister-in-law, Flora Hare, Greenwood. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Ernest and George; one sister, Thelma; and one grandson. Michael Larson, on Sept 23, 1980. Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, is assisting the family with arrangements. |
