Harold S. Jackson, 84, La Crescent, Minn., died at his home Monday, Oct. 30, 2006. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Nov. 3, at Church of the Crucifixion, La Crescent. Msgr. Donald W. Grubisch officiated. Burial with military honors, followed ay Crucifixion Cemetery.

Harold S. Jackson was born in Longwood on Nov. 20, 1921, to Louis and Cecilia (nee Sorenson) Jackson. He married Marion Rose on Sept. 27, 1949, in Preston, Minn. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Winona State University. He taught in the Lewiston School District from 1952-1959, and then taught in Manly, Iowa, for one year. He moved to La Crescent in 1961, where he taught music at the La Crescent Elementary School and driver’s education for the La Crescent School District until his retirement in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army during World War ll, serving in North Africa and Italy. He played in the Blue Denim Boys and the Jolly Polka Band, both out of Winona, for many years. He was a member of Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 of La Crescent, a longtime member of Crucifixion Parish in La crescent, and also held membership in the National Education Association and Minnesota Education Association.

Survivors include his wife, Marion; two daughters, Susan (Larry) Kissinger, Sturgis, Mich., and Mary Ann Jackson, Winona, Minn.; three sons, David (Phyllis) Jackson, Alma, Donald (Cheryl) Jackson, Necedah, and Fred Jackson, St. Paul, Minn.; six grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence “Ozzie” Jackson, Greenwood; three sisters-in-law, Lila Jackson, Hudson, Julia Bublitz, Milwaukee, and Charlotte Jackson, Spencer.
