Valentine F. “Val” Krainz, 88, Willard, entered the arms of his eternal father on Sunday, Nov, 9, 2006, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Visitation will be held ay Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, from 5-7 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service and a Knights of Columbus rosary service at 6:15 p.m. Visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Rev. Joseph Follmar will officiate. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Harbort, James Harbort, Duane Krainz, Justin Zwieg, Brandon Zwieg and Darwin Zwieg.

Valentine Frank Plaisha was born on Jan. 17, 1918, in Willard, to Valentine Sr. and Antonia (nee Zgone) Plaisha. His father, mother, brother, Stanley, and sister, Louise, all died in December of 1918 during the flu epidemic. He and his sister, Antonia, were adopted by Anton and Catherine (nee Mazzatti) Krainz on Sept. 20, 1919.He was raised on a farm in Willard and received his education at the Willard School. He married Helen Horvat at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, on Jan. 21, 1942. He farmed all his life, but also held many other jobs: being treasurer and doing roadwork for the town of Hendren; worked at the ASCS office, Neillsville, for 20 years; worked at Black River Campers, Loyal, for eight years; was a school bus driver and a custodian for the Greenwood School District for 10 years; and was a mail carrier for the Willard Post Office for 12 years. After retiring, he continued to live just south of Willard until his death. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, was on the church council, was the sexton of Holy Family Cemetery for many years, was a member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Fatima Council No. 4963 for more than 60 years, was a member of the Rock Dam Rod and Gun Club for 10 years, was a member of the Willard Historical Society, and was a member of NAFE. He had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family, deer hunting, fishing, and gardening.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Helen, Owen; his children, Donna (Allan) Harbort, Brookfield, Robert (Mary Ann) Krainz, Willard, Larry (Cheryl) Krainz, Marshfield, and Ruth (Darwin) Zwieg, Willard; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Valentine F. Krainz Jr.; and one brother, Stanley Plaisha; and two sisters, Louise Platisha and Antonia Kaltinger.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, is assisting the family with arrangements.
