Surnames: Achenbach, Barthel, Ross, Nielsen, Beach, Beach, Longenecker Source: Clark County Press (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) Thurs., 11 April 1940 -----Achenbach, Margaret Louise (15 May 1861 – 8 April 1940) Mrs. Edward L. Achenbach passed away at her home in this city Monday, April 8, 1940, at 1 a.m. after an illness of about seven years with heart trouble. Mrs. Achenbach, nee Margaret Louise Barthel, was born in Chanhassen, Minnesota, May 15, 1861, to Peter and Margaret Barthel. On March 26, 1884, she was united in marriage to Edward l. Achenbach at Zumbrota, Minn., living for a number of years in Wabasha, Red Wing, La Crosse, and Alma. They moved to the town of Dewhurst, Clark County, in 1900. Here they farmed until five years ago, when they moved to Neillsville. Mr. and Mrs. Achenbach maintained one of the neatest and most productive little farms in the township. They took great pride in the providing their larder so well, from the produce of their land, that it was seldom necessary for them to come to town for provisions during the winter months. Visitors to their farm were most welcome. [first word blurred.] berry pickers often stopped to drink of the cool, clear well water, and to enjoy the clean atmosphere surrounding the cottage. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Achenbach: Mrs. Laura Ross, and Mrs. J. K. Nielsen, St. Paul; Mrs. Hazel Baech, Minneapolis, and Miss Vivian Achenbach, St. Paul, a son, Bertie, dying in infancy. Surviving are the husband and the daughters, all of whom were here for the funeral except Mrs. Beach, who is ill. Services were conducted at the Schiller Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery. |
