Mrs. Clemens H. Kuechenmeister, 75, passed away at her home on South Grand Avenue at 9:40 p.m. Friday, May 3, with a heart attack. She had been about her household duties during the day and spent some time working her garden among the plants and shrubs which she loved.

Mrs. Kuechenmeister, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Hantke, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hantke at La Crosse, February 28, 1865. When she was six years of age, her parents came to Grant Township to reside. Here Mrs. Kuechenmeister grew to young womanhood and on September 26, 1894; she was united in marriage to Clemens Kuechenmeister. They lived on a farm in their home township until 1925 when they purchased a home in Neillsville and came here to live.

She was the mother of two children: Anita, Mrs. Ira Slocomb, Menomonie, and Ernest, of the town of Grant. She is survived by her husband and children, four grandchildren: Billy Kuechenmeister, and Eileen, Natalie and Charles Slocomb; two sisters, Mrs. E. M. Krueger, Milwaukee and Mrs. Robert Kurth, Neillsville, and two brothers, Otto Hantke, Neillsville, and Oscar Hantke, Mercer.

Although hampered by ill health for many years, Mrs. Kuechenmeister complained little. Her aim in life was to make those about her happy, not to burden them with her own cares. She had an unusually faculty for remembering her relatives, friends and neighbors who moved to distant cities and states. Lest the old friendships be lost, she retained a correspondence with many of her schoolmates and acquaintances of an earlier day. She loved to bring cheer to the aged and the sick and willingly assisted wherever she saw want. Hers was indeed a life of usefulness.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church at 2 p.m. Monday, Rev. G. W. Longenecker conducting the rites. Burial was made in the town of Grant Cemetery.

Besides Attorney and Mrs. Ira Slocomb and two daughters of Menomonie, those present for the funeral from out of town included: Mrs. E. M. Krueger, Milwaukee, Oscar Hantke, Mercer; Mrs. Anna Peters, Attorney Otto Marquardt, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Otto Marquardt, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. George Schaldach, Herman Schaldach and Mrs. Fred Schaldach, La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Young, Spencer; John Cramer and Misses Iva and Ida Cramer, Menomonie, and Thomas Stork, Spencer.
