Surnames: Cole, Kelsey, Pegel, Lynn, Lindsey, O'Neill From the Wood County Times, Nekoosa, Wis., Thursday November 13, 1913, Page 8 Shipper Heavily Fined From Stevens Point Journal: On Tuesday of last week Deputy State Game Wardens W. A. Cole of Vesper and Jay Kelsey of this city seized consignment of birds in transit to Chicago. When opened the box contained sixty-three partridges and three grouse, and was billed to Fred Pegel, West Water Street, Chicago. The shipper's name was given as H. Lynn, Chili, Wisconsin. On Saturday the wardens placed a man by the name of Henry Lindsey under arrest and when taken before the court commissioner of Clark county at Neillsville, he was bound over to the circuit court but later appeared before Judge James O'Neill and entered a plea of guilty. He was assessed $75 and costs, amounting in all to $85.88. These partridges, if they had reached their destination, would have realized the shipper at least $1 each. And when placed on the hotel restaurant tables in Chicago would have cost the "ultimate consumers" $2.50 each. |
