The new Catholic church is completed and the first services were held there last Sunday. It is a fine structure 36X74 feet with 22 foot posts, with an extension on the back 16X24 feet, for the vestry room and for the altar. The ceiling is partially of a circular form and in the center is thirty-two feet from the floor. From the ground to the top of the steeple is seventy-nine feet. The whole set upon a solid stone foundation. The work was done under the supervision of Phillip Henkel, who took the contract, and has proved himself an able builder, by the work he has done thereon.

Last Friday evening about seventy-five persons congregated at the commercial House, with baskets filled with provender and other eatables, and about eight o’clock proceeded to the residence of Cr. R. Taylor and took possession. The company was not expected by either Mr. or Mrs. Taylor, but hey soon caught on and helped all to make merry which they did until midnight, when they began to straggle off home saying they never had a better time in their lives and we believe it. But, oh, what a noise some of the ladies made.

Sam C. Sandford has moved his family from Spencer to this place and now occupies the house of N. J. White, on Main Street. It is directly opposite the residence of the senior, who has taken the precaution to put an extra lock on his woodshed. Sam, we welcome you as a resident of Colby.
