Melvin Buchholz

Melvin E. H. Buchholz, 95, formerly a resident of Holcombe, died Monday at the Cornell Area Care Center in Cornell.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cornell with Reverend Kenneth Edenhauser officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Borton Funeral Home in Cornell and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Melvin was born on Sep. 2, 1911 to August and Louisa (Schulte) Buchholz, at Colby. He lived in Ladysmith and Holcombe as a young man and married Helen Birch on June 27, 1934, in Holcombe.

They farmed in Lake Holcombe until retiring in 1980. During that time Melvin also worked at the Cornell Paper Mill and helped clear cut timber to prepare for the Holcombe Dam. Melvin also had been employed with Chippewa Valley Electric in Cornell. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Cornell.

Survivors include a daughter Melva (Raymond) Jaskot of Thorp, four sons, James (Clara) Buchholz of Bloomington, MN, Larry (Patricia) Buchholz of Apple Valley, MN, Dwight Buchholz of Holcombe and Peter (Penny) Buchholz of Holcombe; and one sister, Anita Dunow Revord of Abbotsford. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen, one brother Edgar, two sisters in infancy, one daughter in law Gloria, one great grandson Luke and one great great grandchild.
