January 17, 2007 ----Lobacz, George Walter (December 14, 1924 - January 14, 2007) With Flag George W. Lobacz, age 82, of Thorp, died on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grand- sons: Jason Frederickson, Troy Misfeldt, Trevor Misfeldt, Kyle Rauch, Scott Rauch, Todd Rauch and Joe Cribb. Visitation was held at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. George Walter Lobacz was born on December 14, 1924 in the Town of Reseburg, rural Greenwood, to Victor and Mary (Rogus) Lobacz. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at Oakland School. After completing his schooling, George was inducted into the U. S. Army on June 16, 1943 and served overseas until his discharge on January 8, 1946. He returned to Thorp and was united in marriage to Grace Turenne on January 29, 1947 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp. They farmed on his family farm until 1963, at which time George went to work for Winarczyk Ford, in Thorp, as a truck driver. He worked at the Ford Garage for 10 years and then drove truck for Joe Lato until retiring in 1986. George resided in Thorp until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, the Thorp American Legion, a former member of the Knights of Columbus and loved watching sports. He is survived by his wife, Grace, of Thorp; four daughters: Georgia (Ted) Mollerud of Altoona, Sue (Dan) Reilly of Milwaukee, Carol (Ronald) Frederickson of Lublin, and Debra (Dean) Cribb of Oconto; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward (Dolly) Lobacz of Fort Wayne, IN; one sister, Regina Rogalski of Thorp; and one son-in-law, William P. Nolechek of Thorp. He was preceded in death by parents; one son, Walter Lobacz on February 9, 1972; one daughter, Barbara Nolechek, on November 21, 2002; one granddaughter, Amy Elkins on April 20, 1972; five brothers: George, John, Joe, Mike and Stanley; and two sisters: Anna Jaskot and Helen Krzyzanowski. Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
