Bio: Hoeser, George
(excerpt from "The Centennial History of the York Center United Methodist Church, 1880 - 1980). GOERGE HOESER FAMILY George Hoeser, son of John an Madeline (Cole) Hoeser, was born in Bavaria, Germany, Oct. 4, 1857. He remained at home working on the farm until he was 26 years old, then he came alone to America. He settled in Jefferson County, Wis., where he worked out for about seven months. In 1884, George bought forty acres of land in York Township, Section 8, the tract being all wild land. On it he built a frame house of six rooms, and for ten years thereafter he worked in Heine's sawmill, which stood just across the road. Part of each year he worked on his farm, gradually clearing and improving it. In 1888 he married Barbara Goetz, daughter of Phillip and Barbara Goetz. After their marriage they continued the work of clearing their farm. He bought forty acres more and built a 35 by 80 foot barn, and continued the improvements. George and Barbara were the parents of eleven children. They are Rose, Bertha, Otto, Annie, Mary, Frank, Sophia, Theresa, Kate, Joseph and Lena. |
